We are a small, no-kill, all volunteer, cat rescue and placement group founded in 2006. CatNIP stands for Cat Nurturing, Information, & Placement.
Our mission is to nurture our cats in loving foster homes, provide information to adopters and other members of the community, and place cats in loving forever homes.
CatNIP houses cats only in foster homes; we do not have a shelter or office. The Petsmart at 641 Baltimore Pike in Springfield (across from Best Buy) hosts us full time in their Adoption Center. Volunteers are present on weekends and various other times to meet with potential adopters.
Unfortunately, there are many more cats in need of rescue than we can take. Because of our limited resources, we always have a wait list and are usually unable to take a cat immediately. We request that rescuers hold the cat until placement can be arranged. We evaluate each cat before intake to ensure they can be rehabilitated and prepared for adoption. We also place heavy emphasis on proper veterinary care.
Our volunteers have various levels of experience in animal rescue. We are always in need of more volunteers and no experience is necessary! We are eager to share our knowledge and expertise when it comes to helping animals.
- Many of our volunteers are also adopters, and many of the people who adopt from us do so repeatedly.
- All of our adopters are carefully screened to ensure that our cats and kittens are placed in loving “forever” homes for the rest of their lives. Our adoption team works with potential adopters to match them up with the perfect new family member(s).
- All donations go towards veterinary care, food and other supplies for the cats and kittens. None of our volunteers, directors, or foster families receive payment for their services.
