about us

We are a small, no-kill, all volunteer, cat rescue and placement group founded in 2006. CatNIP stands for Cat Nurturing, Information, & Placement.
Our mission is to nurture our cats in loving foster homes, provide information to adopters and other members of the community, and place cats in loving forever homes.

about

CatNIP houses cats only in foster homes; we do not have a shelter or office. The Petsmart at 641 Baltimore Pike in Springfield (across from Best Buy) hosts us full time in their Adoption Center. Volunteers are present on weekends and various other times to meet with potential adopters.
Unfortunately, there are many more cats in need of rescue than we can take. Because of our limited resources, we always have a wait list and are usually unable to take a cat immediately. We request that rescuers hold the cat until placement can be arranged. We evaluate each cat before intake to ensure they can be rehabilitated and prepared for adoption. We also place heavy emphasis on proper veterinary care.
Our volunteers have various levels of experience in animal rescue. We are always in need of more volunteers and no experience is necessary! We are eager to share our knowledge and expertise when it comes to helping animals.

  • Many of our volunteers are also adopters, and many of the people who adopt from us do so repeatedly.
  • All of our adopters are carefully screened to ensure that our cats and kittens are placed in loving “forever” homes for the rest of their lives. Our adoption team works with potential adopters to match them up with the perfect new family member(s).
  • All donations go towards veterinary care, food and other supplies for the cats and kittens. None of our volunteers, directors, or foster families receive payment for their services.

DONATE

Veterinary care can be extremely expensive. We are a non-profit made up of all volunteers; no one is paid for their time.
Without donations we would not be able to provide food and medical care. Any gifts would be greatly appreciated.

Because we are a 501 (c) (3) organization all gifts to CatNIP are tax deductible.

FOSTER

Guidelines for Fostering Animals for CatNIP:
  • All foster cats remain the property and responsibility of CatNIP.
  • We will choose which cat(s) you foster based on your description of what is suitable.
  • All foster cats should be kept separate from other pets unless we approve other arrangements.
  • We pay for all vet care, food, litter, and other supplies of our choice. If you would like to provide your own food and litter, you are welcome to do so.
  • We will need for you to bring the cat(s) to the store on Saturdays and/or Sundays to show to potential adopters. Each week we send the schedule via email. If you prefer one day over the other, or you have other commitments, please notify us in advance.
  • Your foster cat may also stay at the store for a two-week rotation about once a month, as indicated in the weekly schedule.
  • Routine veterinary care is scheduled by our Vet Liaison. If you are unable to make the scheduled time, the Vet Liaison will work out arrangements.
  • If you observe that your foster cat requires veterinary attention please contact (610) 541-0946.
  • If the situation is life-threatening, head to the nearest vet or emergency clinic.Contact the people above until you get someone.
  • No medicine is to be administered to the foster cat unless instructed by the emergency vet or CatNIP’s Vet Liaison or Presidents.
  • If you will be away from home for more than 12 hours, you must contact us so we can make arrangements to care for your foster cats. We must approve any pet sitters.
  • If you can no longer foster the cat(s) in your care, you must give us a minimum of one week’s notice due to the shortage of foster homes available.
